11:15 – 11:30: Networking 11:30 – 12:00: Lunch 12:00 – 1:30: Program On March 7th St Paul BOMA is pleased to offer a two-in-one meeting that will cover issues of great importance to our members. Shelter needs for the homeless needs has been a huge issue for the city of St. Paul and many other cities throughout the US. Temporary shelters are needed but more long-term solutions are critical. Affordable housing is and has been a barrier. But is rent control the answer? St. Paul voters approved the most stringent rent control ordinance in the nation this past November. Developers who previously saw opportunity in St. Paul are now hesitant to continue their projects in the state’s capital city. Rent stabilization advocates see this as a success for housing justice. There are many unanswered questions as it relates to rent control – is new development exempt? Can landlords raise rents before this ordinance goes into effect in May? We have put together two separate panels with amazing speakers to address both issues and help paint the picture of the current state of affairs on both fronts. Keith A. Lattimore, Director of Housing Stability for Ramsey County, Cecil Smith, President and CEO at Minnesota Multi Housing Association (MHA) and Tony Barranco, President of the North Region for Ryan Companies in charge of the Ford site redevelopment will share their insights and lead an interactive discussion!
