Tips for Optimizing Hydronic Heating and Energy Recovery Ventilation Systems

This session will share practical, field-tested strategies for improving efficiency of hot water space heating systems and ensuring energy recovery ventilation (ERV) systems deliver expected savings in commercial buildings. Drawing on CEE’s boiler system field research, presenters will summarize temperature reset and setpoint recommendations that reduce energy use while maintaining comfort. Attendees will learn how hot water space heating system control tune-ups save energy and hear about buildings that participated in the research project. The session will also highlight key recommendations from MnTAP’s boiler optimization guides. Additionally, CEE will share findings from ERV tune-up research, including common failures building engineers may miss, steps to verify ERV performance, and typical cost savings achievable through a targeted tune-up.
